Applied AI Scientist (PhD)

At Outmarket, we’re building an AI-first platform that’s transforming how brokers, MGAs, and carriers access insights and automate their workflows. We’re already deployed at top agencies, solving complex problems using large language models, embeddings, and intelligent document understanding at scale.
We’re looking for an Applied AI Scientist with a PhD and a strong background in NLP, LLMs, or machine learning to help push the limits of what’s possible with real data in real environments.

What You’ll Do

• Research and develop LLM-based solutions for NLP, document intelligence, semantic search, and data extraction

• Design and optimize prompt strategies, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, and fine-tuned models

• Work closely with product and engineering teams to integrate your work into real-time, customer-facing workflows

• Build evaluation pipelines and establish benchmarks for accuracy, performance, and robustness

• Stay current on the latest research and rapidly experiment with new techniques

What We’re Looking For

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or a related field

• Strong research background with publications in top-tier AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ACL, ICML, EMNLP)

• Hands-on experience with LLMs, transformers, embeddings, or neural IR

• Proficiency in Python and ML libraries like PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, etc.

• Track record of applying research in practical, production-grade systems

Bonus If You Have

• Experience with unstructured data (PDFs, forms, contracts, portals)

• Background in enterprise or B2B applications of AI

• Familiarity with insurance, legal, or document-heavy industries
